Hey bebes 🤍
It’s time! It’s time for us, wonderful seamstresses to start acting like designers! Sewing can be overwhelming with so many ideas and inspirations around us, but with some simple tricks designers use- we can plan & execute it hustle-free and achieve that coherent wardrobe wordy of The House of Dior. Ready?
1. Board

We need something to pin on all our fabulous ideas. I got myself this one from Target, but you can find them in any office supply store.
2. Inspiration

What inspired you to create this collection (or garment in particular)? It can be as literal as outfits that you liked on Pinterest, or just something that you saw in life- interesting building, night sky, waves… Print it out and put it on your board.
3. Sketch

Now it’s time for playing! You can draw your ideas on industry standard figure (corque), draw just the clothes (sort of floating in the air) or draw them on Yourself! While you do it, it’s good to imagine where you’re going to wear it, how it’s going to feel- you know, bring it to life in your mind.
4. Fabric

What fabrics are you planning to use? You can get free swatches (little squares of fabric) almost anywhere for free or with minimal cost. This is a great way to see how coherent your collection will be, not just for the sake if coherence but also for mix-and-matching purposes.
5. Pattern

What patterns are you going to use? Are you going to draft them yourself, buy, or trace your existing garments? Collect them and pin next to the rest of your plans.

After all this is done- you are ready to bring your ideas to life! And you did it like a true fashion designer you are!
See you soon! XOXO
